Cake Stand

Delicious displays in French Patisseries were the original starting point for this painting. I bought a box of cakes and pastries and brought them back to my studio.

The cakes were exquisite, very fancy and exotic.. almost too good to eat. The text in the background of this piece reflects this idea, with beautifully worded with 50's recipes showing instructions and descriptions of how to create the perfect cake. The cakes themselves are almost like jewels or boats or even butterflies... fantastical fondants and fancies, perhaps to be admired rather than eaten!
